Possible Service Projects to help
The children of Rancho Damacitas
1. Within our 12.5 acres there are numerous projects that involve weed abatement and clearing to create usable space. This project can be tailored to fit the size of any group. We ask that individuals bring their own tools and weed eaters.
2. Our Program Director is in need of a small outdoor village consisting of playhouses. We currently have six but would like an additional two to four. This project would involve the design and construction of the playhouses. Our existing playhouses can be used as an example. This project can be broken into different phases for multiple groups.
3. On the backside of one of our cottages is a sliding glass door that accesses one of our Home-Parent's rooms. This door receives direct sunlight all summer long. We would like to see a free standing pergola, shade structure that would stand independently along the house and provide shade for the door.
4. We currently have a pathway that leads from some of our cottages to our primary bus stop. The pathway is bordered with cement curbing and is filled with decomposed granite. Unfortunately, during the winter months the granite washes away and makes the path slippery, muddy, and dangerous. We would like to have concrete poured on the path. This is a large project and could be broken into stages for several groups to work on.
5. On our campus there is a picnic area with grills. This is used by our cottages and for sibling visits. We would like to see a second picnic area created. This would consist of an additional concrete pad being constructed, an additional grill being installed, and an additional picnic table being purchased. We would also like to see a walkway of concrete from the new pad to an existing sidewalk.
6. There are several sections on our campus that are in need of mulch being acquired and spread. Some of these areas already have mulch and simply need a new layer applied, while others are new areas that do not yet have mulch. This is a very important project as it helps to maintain the beauty of our campus as well as helps with keeping weeds down, improving water drainage, and preventing erosion. This is a project that can be broken into stages for several groups to work on.
7. Along the main driveway/entrance to our campus we have a drainage issue. When it rains the water runs alongside of the driveway cutting a significant rut into the ground. This is a safety hazard. We would like to see a permanent solution created that would remedy this problem.
8. There is a large green space behind our multi-purpose building where each morning and afternoon our youth cross to access our primary bus stop. We would like to see a sidewalk of concrete constructed to provide a better look, preserve our grass, and provide a safe environment.
9. Last year we decided to relocate our maintenance storage yard. This is an area approximately 28 x 14 feet. It is currently fenced with chain link fencing. We would like to see the chain link fence removed and a solid wood fence in its place. There would also need to be two double gates on the front side of the enclosure for equipment access.
10. We have four cottages o nour main campus and two cottages off site. At each of these cottages we would like to see storage sheds constructed. We have a couple of sheds currently on our campus that can serve as an example. This project will be broken down so that each newly constructewd shed is a project by itself. Essentially, we have up to six projects listed here.
11. One of our cottages sits alongside a busy road. We would like to see split rail fencing installed between the house and the road along side of a row of shrubs that already exists. This is not a large project but would require the purchasing of the fencing materials and its installation.
This is only a partial list of projects. Please contact us for the complete list. Thank you.
